Black beans can be made in a crockpot in large quantities and frozen for later use.

  • 4 cups black beans
  • 1/2 tbsp. sea salt
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 4 inches Kombu seaweed (optional but helps with those who struggle with bloating or gas from bean consumption)
  • 1 tsp. cumin (optional)
  • 1 jalapeno, diced and seeded (optional)
  1. In a large bowl, cover beans with water 2 inches above the beans.  Soak overnight and rinse thoroughly the next day.
  2. In a large pot or crockpot, place beans and the rest of the ingredients and cover with water 2 inches above the beans.
  3. In a crockpot, turn on high for 5 hours then reduce heat to low for 2 hours or until done.
  4. In a pot, bring brans to a boil, reduce heat and simmer until beans are tender, about 3 hours.
  5. Serve over rice or in a salad or as a side dish.
